Windows Vista Install : Windows Easy Transfer
Device Manager | Post Setup Tasks
Repeat the processes of checking out the hardware driver situation until all of hardware devices on your system are up and running. If you go for Windows Update during it, it will display a number of Windows Vista product updates. One should install those updates before moving on to the next step.
Now install the applications you want and install them one by one and reboot if necessary after each install you finish, if at all requested. It will take a long time but the good part is one should have to do it once. With your applications installed, it is the time to restore the data, might have backed up from the older Windows install.
If one had installed Windows Vista to new system, can transfer documents, program settings, Internet settings and favorites, user accounts, music, picture, and video files, and e-mail messages, contacts, and messages, from old PC to Windows Vista using Windows Easy Transfer, new Vista utility.
It is located in Start Menu->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools, this utility is a wizard-like application, as displayed in the image below, which one can install and run on older OS also.
