Windows Vista Secrets

How to access System Locations, Special Shell Folders?

Just go on Start Menu on the right side of that menu you will find a list of vague commands which are similar to those appeared On the start menu of XP. But in that the some of names are changed. Instead of My Document you will find only Documents, instead of My Pictures you will find Pictures, instead of My Music you get just Music etc.

It might be happen that some items you find are new or some items are missing which are present in XP. The new thing here is that you get an additional command which is having the same name as your user account. The first link on the right side of the Start Menu will be 'Kelly' if you logged on as kelly. When you are going to click this link, you will find that an Explorer window gets open which displays contents of your user folder, and in that you will find the folders as Documents, Music, etc. We don't know exactly that why we need to access this folder, coz we don't require it frequently so we can replace it with a command which we require more.

We will see more about customization of start window in next chapter. In Window Vista we find a new Game link. It opens new Games Explorer, which will provide access to games. These games can be those which came with Window or they might be those which you purchase separately.

The ability to quickly shutdown the system or restart, sleep, and hibernate it using the keyboard might be missed by some peoples. You are not going to find the shortcuts for these tasks in windows Vista because of the new integrated search feature.

You are always free to do these actions in Windows Vista with the keyboard. First you have to press the windows key then three times press the Right key , it will activate the submenu Lock for this computer. It provides the options for the previously mentioned options as well as new options as Switch User, lock, Log Off, and undock only if you are having the notebook pc with a docking station.
